CERAMIC IMPLANTS

Ceramic dental implants: as natural and aesthetic as nature.

Since the seventies, attempts have been made to manufacture metal-free dental implants with the help of ceramic materials. A great advance has been achieved with CAD/CAM computer-guided milling machines capable of working the extreme hardness of zirconium dioxide ceramic.

Since 2006 we have been using zirconium implants with great success.

Worldwide, we are one of the dental clinics with the most experience in this field and we give courses to professionals in the profession at our CIAM training center.

What are the advantages of these implants and for which patients are they especially indicated?:

  • Patients in need of implants who prefer a 100% metal-free treatment
  • Patients with an inflammatory reaction (rejection) to titanium (can be known with the LTT test (Lymphocyte Transformation Test))
  • Patients looking for a particularly aesthetic result in the anterior region
  • The gingiva around the restorations on these implants always has an absolutely healthy appearance with no signs of inflammation

Why do most professionals not recommend ceramic implants?

Until recently, only one-piece ceramic implants existed for technical reasons. For the implantologist it is more difficult and requires more practice to place this type of implant in its optimal position. 3D diagnosis is an important aid in achieving this. In the first 2 months, while the osseointegration of the implant takes place, the professional has to find the best way for each case to protect the implant abutment that protrudes from the gingiva against forces that can cause micro-movements of the implant that would cause the correct integration to fail, that is, the loss of the implant. In addition, the patient has to be especially careful, such as not chewing on the side of the inserted implant. With technological advances, it is now possible to have two-piece zirconium implants similar to titanium implants. It seems that the clinical results are favorable and allow us to simplify the protocol.
